It’s been a long time coming…

Soooooooo….I had a baby! Surprise! Okay, not really a surprise since everyone who reads this has already seen my ever-changing waistline. BUT! I’m happy to announce that said waistline is now shrinking instead of expanding. (Applause and cheers are humbly accepted)

So back to this baby. He’s pretty cute. And already 6 weeks old. Yikes! Here are a few pictures to prove his existence:

Look at all that blonde hair!

The Question “Why…?”…

I have recently begun to appreciate the curiosity of little boys. It seems that every basic thing that we do lately demands a detailed explanation. If I don’t do a sufficiently good job at being detailed, the question is followed by a “But, why?” Until I get it right, of course. Which can make for an awkward time in the grocery store line. A few questions that I have answered lately:

“Why did you say ‘Ouch’, Mommy? Why did you do that?”

“Why do I not poop in my underwears?”

“Why is Mickey my best friend?” (Really? How can I answer that.)

“Why did you put me on time out?” along with the related “Why is hitting not nice?

“Mommy, why does that man smell bad?”

“Why did you pinch my leg?”

“Why do I have to put my jacket on?”

“Why is that lady sitting on that chair?”

And my favorite….”Why is your tummy SO big?”  A few too many cookies, I suppose. :)

The Jazz Game and a Snowman

Sorry, fans. I know this has been a long time coming, but here is my latest post.

Two questions: Why are you pointing the ipod at me like that, and WHY is said iPod not in my possession this very moment?

He's okay with it, now that he realizes he's on camera...

Like father, like son. 'Nuf said.

The much anticipated (and currently under-appreciated) first big snowfall of the season. So what did we do? We built a snowman. Lemons into lemonade, people.

Daddy making the big bottom. We're replicating Mommy, here. It just gets bigger, and bigger...

Funny, funny Carson

I made soup the other day. Bacon potato soup, to be exact. And I assumed Carson wouldn’t eat it since he hates all things potato, and I made him an alternate meal. When we sat down to eat, he asked for soup. I’m not going to refuse the kid just because I THOUGHT he wouldn’t like it, so I got him a bowl. He tasted it and promptly said, “This soup is AMAZING!” Well, okay, then.

And he also said to Ryan the other day, “Mommy is SO-O-O cute!” That, ladies and gentlemen, would warm any pregnant lady’s big fat heart.

Merry Christmas!

That was just to whet your appetite for all things Christmas. Everyone had a blast this year for Christmas. We started the party off with a Christmas Eve breakfast with Ryan’s extended family, and then we made a day of it. We watch some pretty bad Christmas movies on TV at Larry and Raylene’s house before we went to a late lunch at Texas Roadhouse. Afterwards, we went to a movie, then headed home for some quality sleep time.

Christmas morning, we woke up with the sun (okay, with Carson…the sun wasn’t up yet), and got to see if Santa came. Turns out he did come, and Carson scored pretty big. Check it out…

Here is some documentation of the rest of the goodness:

Cool dude on Christmas morning! Ready to make a statement while opening all those presents.

Playin’ with the tools Santa brought.
It’s a big one! Look at his face. He’s pretty excited.
More tools?! Does it get any better than this?
I submit that it does NOT!
Opening presents with his hard hat on. Oh yeah.
Break the Ice. Best five dollars ever spent. We had to actually convince him that opening another present would be MORE fun than playing the game.
And was it? Not really, but he got a cool coat that actually fits. Mom: 1 Break the Ice: 0
And Dad got a golf distance finder! He was so surprised… Mom: 2 Break the Ice: still 0
Excited face! He doesn’t even know what it is yet. But he’s got the Christmas spirit, alright!
This may have something to do with his enthusiasm…chocolate…

Okay, this is the best. Check out the video we got of what REALLY matters…

Mr. Potato Head. A classic that has Carson thrilled from the first time he lays eyes on him. Nice going Grandma and Grandpa!

Cool hat…Mom: 3 Break the Ice: still 0. And Mr. Potato Head still dominating the toy scene.

After opening all the presents, we got ready for church and headed over to Larry and Raylene’s for some Christmas breakfast. But before we left, one more forgotten present…

What could it be?

No words needed when you see that giant grin on the little boy holding the giant Mickey.

Best. Present. Ever.

So after remembering the forgotten present, we went to breakfast at Larry and Raylene’s. We even had time before church to open MORE presents! We’ll have to update you with those pictures, since we forgot our camera and had to use Raylene’s. Bottom line, Carson made a haul. His favorites from round two: Thomas the Train from Grammie and Grandpa, and a remote control truck from Uncle Brad. Oh, and the flying monkey was pretty cool, too. After church we went home so Carson *ahem-Daddy* could take a nap, and Mommy could finish making rolls for dinner. Once Grammie and Grandpa came home from visiting Adam and Lisa, we went to their house again to eat a fantastic dinner, and play a fantastic game of Aggravation (I won.) It was a fantastic day. Merry Christmas everyone!

Long time, no update!

I never have been good at record keeping. This blog is becoming a lot like my journal…a list of things to write about until three months later I actually write about it. There have been lots of little things happening that I should record. Like how cute Carson is. Oh wait…I say that all the time. Still, it does have some merit, since it is so obviously true. Here are just a few of my favorite things (in no particular order, besides that I remembered them that way) that he does/says lately.

1. “You are annoying man.” He says this a lot lately when we do something that he doesn’t like. It’s not annoying ME, but annoying MAN.

2. “Mommy, are you frustrated?” Sometimes I tell him that I am getting frustrated, and he can pick up on it pretty quickly. If I am getting frustrated, and he asks me that, it pretty much pulls the plug on my frustration. You can’t help but smile at something so sweet.

3. “What are you guys talking about?” Carson loves to be part of the conversation, and feels left out if he’s not addressed for a while, so this is his solution. If we don’t include him, he’ll find a way to make himself included.

4. I sigh quite a bit these days, just because I feel like it, I guess. Carson responds to my sighs in one of two ways: “Mommy, why did you say that? Why did you say *huh-huuuuh*?” or he’ll ask “Are you okay, Mommy?”

5. “If you hit me, you go on time-out.” Not a good one in public. I’m probably going to get reported for child abuse if he keeps saying things like that. But at least I know that what I’m trying to teach him (hitting is not nice) is sinking in somewhat, right?

6. “Hmmm….Let me think…” while tapping his chin. Usually he’ll also come up with some sort of solution within five seconds. “Oh, I know! How bout we go get something to eat!

7. “If you do ____, I’ll give you a piece of candy.” Usually said to one of his stuffed animals who aren’t cooperating during play-time.

8. “I love you thi-i-i-i-s much!” stretching his arms out.

9. Bedtime hugs. He always asks for one when I’m about ready to leave, and then he grabs onto my neck really tight, and says “Okay. You can go now.” To which I have to respond by pulling back a little and saying, “Oh, I can’t! I’m stuck.” He gets a kick out of it every time.

10. “Let me tell you a story.” *Gets out a book* “Once upon a time there was a hippo and a crocodile.” It’s always about a hippo and a crocodile. And usually that’s the entire story. Sometimes I can prompt out of him that the hippo is purple and the crocodile is blue, but that’s pushing it.

11. Kung Fu Panda moves. You have to see this one to know the extent of it’s cuteness.

12. If he is whining for something, and we tell him to ask nice, Carson cocks his head to one side and says very sweetly, “Mommy (or Daddy), can I have a ______, please?”

13. “You need to listen to me!”

14. Grown up conversation. This little boy can have a very intelligent conversation with anyone who will give him the chance and will listen.

15. “Mommy, I love you.” It warms my heart when he says this with no prompting, out of the blue.

16. “Ohhh-kay.” said while hanging his head, like “This isn’t what I want to do, but I’ll do it if you force me.”

17. Sometimes when I ask him to do something, he will say something to this effect: “I will, right after I am done playing with my tools.” If I ask him again, he’ll say something like this “I will. I’m almost done.”

18. We ask Carson where the baby is all the time, and he know that he resides in Mommy’s tummy. One time after he patted my belly to show me where the baby was, he asked “Where’s Daddy’s baby?” I said, “Daddy doesn’t have a baby, Mommy has a baby.” to which he replied, “Yes, he does. It’s right there!” pointing to Ryan’s stomach. That made my day.

19. “I’ll come, too!” He likes to be part of the action, to come wherever I am going, even if it is just upstairs.

20. “I’m not gonna be in trouble.” Said when Carson knows that he’s done something that should get him in trouble.

21. “I need a hug!” What’s better than that?

22. Carson loves Mickey Mouse, Po the Panda, anything resembling a ball, reading books, putting together puzzles, and playing in the kitchen. Any time he hears me twist the lid off of the flour or sugar bucket, he comes running and digs a measuring spoon out of the drawer so he can “help”. He’s recently been coming out of his shell more, will talk to others without prompting, and has even ventured away from me to play with other kids.

23. His amazing memory. Carson memorizes books that we read, and sometimes will start reciting them out of the blue. He also recalls things that may not seem worth remembering. Like me stepping in Zoey’s poop. Nice.

This is a really long and wordy post, but let’s not lie…I will probably keep remembering things that I will have to add to this list, and it’s really just for myself anyways. It’s a pretty good start for a pretty amazing little boy. I love watching his little independent spirit trying to do things by himself, but I still love that he likes to have me around, and that he will ask for my help.  I sure love my little boy!

Part 3: The Zoo

We didn’t get very many pictures at the zoo, because we were poor stewards and forgot to charge the camera battery. BOO. But, here are the few pictures we did manage to eek out, plus a few from my Dad. Thanks, Dad!

First item up: petting zoo. And goats. Just wait...the good part is yet to come.

Oh, it's so soft and cuddly...

I want to know what Carson was thinking right then...maybe "I think I want to catch a disease from this cuddly thing"

And with that...petting zoo time is over. Bye bye goats!

Fun at the otter tank

Free roaming parrot. Pretty cool!

The meerkats were really fun to watch, running all around. Carson didn't want to leave.

Looking at the hippo. This one confused Carson a bit, since hippos are always purple and cute in picture books. haha

Playing the drums on daddy's head.

This is fun, right Dad?

And the Panda bear! Carson's favorite part of the zoo. From the minute we walked in, he said "I wanna see the panda!"

Yay for pandas!

Snack time!

And now...half the reason that the battery went dead before we got done with the zoo.Presenting Carson's blooming photography skills...

A very liberal take on Auntie Kristen and Uncle Mike.

The backside of Uncle Derek and Grandpa.

Um...trees...

And now for other people's pictures. (Thanks Grandpa!) Kristen and Mike looking atthe monkeys.

Blaine and Grandma *not* looking at the monkeys.

Tigers! There were three of the cutest little cubs, but it was really hard to see thembecause it was feeding time and everyone was there to watch.

Another picture of the panda eating her ice treat.

Lunch time at the van.

Elephants. Look at those tusks!

All of us but the photographer (Grandpa) on the escalator.

Gorillas. Grandpa's favorite animal...

Carson riding the turtle. Pretty good picture, if you ask me. :)

It was a really big zoo, so we didn’t get to see all of it. We saw most of it, since we took a bus tour and it passed by most the animals, but there was lots of stuff we probably missed. At least we saw all the big animals, and we were satisfied with that. It was a really fun vacation. Carson still talks about it two and a half months later.

Part Two: Disney Land!

Riding the fire wagon! We were a little bit early to see Mickey and the crew, so we killed time by playing here!

Goofy all dressed up for Halloween...check out the look of wonder on Carson's face.

Carson giving Donald a hug. He didn't need any coaxing at all, he just walked right up there by himself and leaned in for a hug.

I couldn't get Carson to look at the camera for anything. He was so excited to see his favorite characters!

Waving to Winnie the Pooh...right before we went on the Winnie the Pooh ride.

Carson and I on the Dumbo ride.

Carson got to control if we went up or down...highlight of the ride.

We met Mickey!

It was really hard telling Carson we had to wait in line to give Mickey a hug, but he did it. As you can see, he was more than excited to meet him!

Carson and I and BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!

We even got to see Mickey's house...which was awesome. It was just Carson's size!

Playing the Harp with the Handy Helpers...It's really kind of sad that I know that.

At the end of Mickey's house, we got to meet Mickey....again!

The toon car. Carson was a little upset that we had to take turns with the other people waiting in line.

Family picture in front of the Toon Town sign. Too bad the toon town sign was cut out of the picture...

Tower of Terror. I like the guy on the front row. Looks like he's sitting in a funny movie, not free falling 10 stories.

It’s a Disney Vacation!

At the beginning of October we took a family vacation to California with my entire family. We only spent 3 days there, but we had a blast! Here are some pictures to document the trip.

Bonk! Carson was VERY excited to get to ride on an airplane, and he watched them come and go as we waited.

Looking out the window...

Grandpa and Carson enjoying the view of the planes.

Carson, Grandpa, and Derek enjoying the outside penguin encounter.

Carson enjoying his complimentary beverage on the flight...apple juice!

Ready to go! This is the next day when we went to Sea World.

Carson and Daddy petting the iguana

Looking at the aquarium fishies. Carson was in little boy heaven!

I take it back...NOW he's in little boy heaven...he got to TOUCH the fishies!

And now touching the hedgehog...or some other small animal. I can't remember what it was. :)

And here's a different view of the nameless creature. If you know what it is, let me know.

Ryan and I on the water ride with Dad and Blaine. Mike, Kristen and Derek rode with us once (while Mom stayed with Carson), but then they were boobie babies, and wouldn't go again, even though they were already wet. LAME! ;)

Looking at the penguins.

Carson, Grandpa, and Derek enjoying the penguin encounter out-of-doors!

This guy was great entertainment while we were waiting for the seal and otter show.

The seal show...

Carson before SHAMU! He was so excited to see the whales. It was the one thing he talked about before the vacation besides Mickey Mouse, of course.

Wow, big whale.

Dolphin!

Carson chillin with Dad at the Dolphin show during their "technical difficulties".

We went to a couple more shows and rides, and just as we got done seeing everything we wanted to see, it started to rain and blow…cold! It was really good timing, and we just decided to go back to the house and relax there. Stay tuned for Part Two: DisneyLand!

It’s a softball league.

Ryan and I were in a softball league at the end of the summer. Which was a lot of fun. I was worried that Carson wouldn’t handle it very well, since he’s sort of in recovery from a severe case of mama’s-boy-dom. Okay, that statement was entirely true if you take out the recovery part. He’s a mama’s boy.

I was wrong, though. Carson handled it very well. He loved playing with his cousins and the softballs, and saying “Hit the ball, mommy!” when I was up to bat. Here are a few pictures we took while we were messing around before the games.

Carson throwing the ball in his own....unique way.

Carson running the bases, while simultaneously avoiding the actual bases....again, in his own unique way.

Waiting patiently to catch the ball. Look how cute he is...
